Window Film
Solutions for Homes and Businesses
We offer a wide range of window films to combat any issues you might encounter with your glass. Excessive heat can often be a problem, in which case we would recommend solar window film, or skylight window film/conservatory window film to tackle heat in specific places. If your main problem is with privacy, you could choose the highly advanced alternative to net curtains window films, or a frosted window film. For those seeking added safety and security, we offer safety window films, security window films, or bomb blast window films. Perhaps you need a window film for your business that can help you comply with health and safety regulations? We specialise in designing and fitting glass manifestation window films, making glass safer and more visible inside or out.

Window film or blinds?
Many of our customers ask us whether window film is more effective than blinds. The answer? Absolutely!
With window film, heat will ricochet off the glass, keeping the room at a consistent temperature. Blinds allow heat to come in through the sides, so they are far less effective at maintaining a comfortable temperature. It’s also worth remembering that window film is the significantly cheaper option, too.

Window film are specially designed thin laminate sheets made from a polyester substrate that are coated on one side with a highly scratch-resistant material and on the other with an adhesive layer that binds them to the window surface.
They provide a number of benefits to the property including UV protection from the sun, additional privacy and protection in the event that the windows are broken and shatter.
There are a number of factors in play when it comes to determining how long window film will last. These include the exact type of window film you have installed, the type of glass they’re installed on, the type of window, where it’s located in the home and the conditions in the interior of the home.
There are examples of window film lasting for well over 20 years, but this is by no means the standard lifespan. We guarantee our window film for 10 years.
Good question! In the majority of cases, window film is installed on the interior side of the window. This is to protect it from the outside elements, which are known to accelerate wear and tear and reduce the film’s lifespan. That said, there are window films available that are specially formulated for outdoor application, as it’s not always possible to apply them to a window’s interior facing side.
When applied to windows, whether in a commercial or residential setting, window film will provide a number of different benefits. These include:
- Regulating indoor temperatures and avoiding sudden spikes or dips
- Increasing privacy and reducing the likelihood of theft
- Protecting home furnishings from UV damage by the sun’s rays
- Making the property a safer place by offering protection from broken glass
You know all about the benefits. They’re talked about everywhere. But what about the downsides to installing window film. Can they damage your windows? If professional grade film is used, such as that produced by PR Solar, the short answer is no. Window film is extremely unlikely to cause damage to glass window panes.
If you require help to determine what the most suitable type of window film would be for your particular windows, our experienced team would be delighted to provide assistance with an onsite consultation.
It’s not possible to apply window film to textured glass, no. The reason for this is that the surface of the glass is not flat, so when the film is installed, it will leave small gaps across the entire surface of the film. Over time, these gaps will cause the window film to release and fall off.
Many of our clients with conservatories wanted to know this before buying! Window film that is manufactured to the highest standards and then professionally installed will prevent the sun’s heat from penetrating the windows and making the interior of your home uncomfortably hot.
They don’t have to be, but they should be. If window film is not installed properly, it can potentially cause damage to your windows. We’ve seen numerous DIY installations and the most common issues include:
- Thermal heat stress leading to breakage/damage
- Damaged seals leading to misty or cloudy glass
When PR Solar installs your window film, you can be sure that everything will be done correctly. You won’t have to worry about damage to your glass panes, and you can rest easy knowing you’re going to experience the full range of benefits from your window films.
Window film is largely maintenance-free after installation, other than requiring some light cleaning. When cleaning them, you’ll need to keep the following advice in mind:
- Avoid abrasive cleaning materials and only use soft cloths or sponges to wipe away dust
- Dry the surface of the window film quickly using a soft cloth
- Most standard glass cleaning products should be safe to apply to window film
The non-adhesive side of your window film has a scratch-resistant coating on it that protects it from most damage providing you are careful when cleaning it.
This depends on the exact window film that you choose. There are types of window film available that do block your vision from inside and outside, but most window film, such as the film that PR Solar sells, allows you to sit in your property and look out through your windows.
